# Overview

> What the PHP Agent SDK is for and what surface it currently exposes.

The PHP Agent SDK is a full local agent state machine for Phaseo Gateway, including retries, timeout checks, human review, resumable state, lifecycle events, and Devtools capture. Tool callbacks execute synchronously in the standard PHP runtime.

Use it when you want:

* a lightweight bounded tool loop
* gateway-backed `responses` requests
* app-owned control over persistence and orchestration

## What it ships

* `AgentSdk::createAgent(...)`
* `AgentSdk::defineTool(...)`
* `AgentSdk::createGatewayAgentClient(...)`
* a bounded tool loop over the Phaseo `responses` API
